Joshua Franklin, The Roswell Daily Record — The Goddard Rockets volleyball team clinched its second straight district title with a 3-0 road win over Artesia on Monday.
The Bulldogs pushed the Rockets past the usual 25-point mark, but Goddard held on to win 26-24, 31-29 and 25-16.
As of Wednesday, Goddard was 19-3 overall and 5-0 in District 4-4A, with all 19 victories coming in straight sets.
After the Rockets’ win over Lovington on Oct. 29, Goddard coach Andy Luikens offered a simple explanation for his team’s success and consistency this season.
“We’ve got a good team,” he said.
Goddard closes the regular season on the road against Portales (15-7, 3-2 District 4-4A) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
