By Kevin Hendricks — Someone inside an East Mountains home fired toward Bernalillo County deputies early Saturday, hitting a patrol unit and drawing a SWAT team to N.M. 333 near Tijeras.

Deputies headed to the 1100 block of N.M. 333 around 3 a.m. Oct. 31 after callers reported yelling, a possible fight, threats and people with guns, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office said. While deputies talked with a 17-year-old outside, someone at the home opened fire in their direction. Deputies took cover, moved the teen to safety and surrounded the property.

The gunfire hit no one. Investigators later found at least one bullet hole in a BCSO patrol unit. The sheriff’s office believes the armed people involved are juveniles.

BCSO called in SWAT, with help from New Mexico State Police, Edgewood police and the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. Eight people walked out of the home during the response, and BCSO drone operators spotted multiple guns inside.

BCSO detectives are investigating and have not announced arrests or charges. N.M. 333 closed near the home during the operation and has since reopened.
