By Kevin Hendricks, The Paper. — Rio Rancho families stretching their grocery budgets this holiday season get an extra day to stock up. St. Felix Pantry is adding Wednesday distributions through the end of December.

The pantry will give out groceries Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon in November and December, according to a press release from the nonprofit. That’s on top of its regular Thursday, Friday and Saturday distributions, which run during the same hours. The first added day is Wednesday, Nov. 4.

More New Mexico families are seeking food help as household costs climb, and the pantry is adding the day to keep up with that demand, according to the release. To get groceries, guests need only a New Mexico ID or a recent bill showing their name and a New Mexico address.

Want to help fill the shelves? The pantry is asking businesses, schools, churches and civic groups to host holiday food drives. Canned vegetables, fruit and soup top the wish list, along with pasta, rice, cereal and peanut butter. Cash donations help the pantry buy food and respond to changing needs.
