By Kevin Hendricks, The Paper. —  The balloons came back down. Hotel rates didn’t. Albuquerque hotels earned about $30.5 million in room revenue during the 2026 Balloon Fiesta, up 9% from last year, as nearly 902,000 guest visits packed Balloon Fiesta Park, according to two post-event reports released last week.

Visitors paid an average of $221 a night, up from about $201 in 2025, Visit Albuquerque reported Oct. 21. Citywide hotel occupancy climbed on both weekends and the weekdays in between, peaking at 92.9% during the second weekend. Room revenue nearly matched the 2023 record, when the Fiesta shared the sky with an annular solar eclipse.

“Balloon Fiesta continues to inspire trips to our city and state,” said Tania Armenta, Visit Albuquerque president and CEO.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Inc. counted 901,720 guest visits, up from 851,994 in 2025. Saturday, Oct. 10, drew the biggest crowd at an estimated 193,761 guests. All 14 scheduled sessions took place, though a Wednesday morning flight became a static display and Saturday’s evening glow became a candlestick glow.

Executive Director Julie Morgas Baca credited the skies after weeks of record-breaking metro rain. “Mother Nature blessed us with gorgeous weather,” she said.

Not every number floated up. Short-term rentals booked about 16,050 listing nights, down 2.3%, according to AirDNA data cited by Visit Albuquerque. Weekday hotel demand still held steady without a repeat of 2025’s sold-out Paul McCartney concert.

Hotel stays feed the city’s Lodgers Tax and Hospitality Fee collections, which reached $2.8 million in October 2025. The city expects October 2026 tax figures in late December. A biennial economic-impact study paid for by the Fiesta will measure what this year’s event meant for local businesses, jobs and city revenue. The 2024 study pegged total impact at $216.33 million.
