Looking for fun events this weekend in our area and beyond? Don’t miss our Roswell Daily Record weekend edition that hits the stores and is sent to subscribers on Friday.

Here is a glimpse of the five main stories, which include feature stories, art, trunk-or-treats events and local-favorite columns.

We start off with the annual Cars for Breast Cancer Awareness, a car show this Saturday that shows off the finest oldtimers, decked-out low riders, bikes and even bicycles.

Then readers can learn about the highlights of the Roswell Jazz Festival. Fans of the true American music genre can look forward to concerts featuring more than 30 famous musicians from throughout the U.S. and overseas, including the master of the tenor saxophone, Harry Allen; the timeless saxophonist, clarinettist and vocalist representing the new generation, Evan Arntzen; New York City trombonist John Allred (guest of honor in 2018); jazz fans’ favorite living trombonist Dan Barrett; Sacramento banjo player Bill Dendle, who was inducted into the American Banjo Hall of Fame on Oct. 8; French violinist with a passion for Eastern European jazz, Adrien Chevalier; and organizer and artistic director of the festival and a musician in his own right, Michael Francis, to name a few.

Our new sports reporter Josh Franklin’s feature story is about Roswell chasing another title shot and Goddard working toward a breakthrough. Also, everything about the Coyotes and Rockets.

The column “Historical Anecdotes” by local historian Janice Dunnahoo captures a unique time in Roswell, when the first railroad came to town in 1894. A favorite among our readers, the column by Rick Kraft, “Just a Thought,” inspires readers weekly, and tomorrow, he asks “if you’re living your life to the fullest?”

Sponsored by our local businesses, you’ll find the listing of Roswell’s churches on pages 10 and 11. The legal section includes on Friday public notices, including information about the city government’s proposed Ordinance 26-12 and when and where the public hearing will be: “An ordinance authorizing the sale of Hangar 91 and approving the purchase and sale agreement with Hangar 91, LLC.” Next to the legals, our readers find the classified section with employment opportunities, garage sale locations and various offerings from private Roswellians and local businesses.

The final highlights are our calendars, including Roswell’s Community Calendar and Out of Town Calendar, featuring events in Roswell, Chaves County and throughout New Mexico.
