By Kevin Hendricks, The Paper. — Want your ghost stories with a little extra atmosphere? The Rio Rancho Players are taking their campfire tales somewhere spirits already feel right at home: French Funeral Home.

“Around the Campfire” opens Friday and runs two weekends at the funeral home on Unser Boulevard. Thirteen storytellers will gather around an immersive campfire set and mix dramatic readings with theatrical performances, bringing classic lore and fresh nightmares to life around the audience, according to Rio Rancho Creative Crossroads, the nonprofit behind the community theater troupe.

Players actor Bryce Bergdol and costume designer Amanda Vaughn co-direct the show, which mixes returning favorites with new performers. The venue throws in free parking and its own in-house specter, Carl, according to a press release.

Come dressed to kill. Each show ends with prizes for the best-dressed audience members, and the costume contest takes the first 20 entries. Themed concessions, raffles and a photo booth run before the show and at intermission.

Seating is capped at 84 “campers” per performance, so organizers recommend buying tickets early. The show isn’t recommended for kids under 13.
