The Edgewood Lions Club and Sandia Mountain Lions Club stocked East Mountain Food Pantry’s shelves with 1,500 pounds of food and raised $860 for the pantry.
The pantry thanked both clubs in a Facebook post this week, calling them “amazing partners and phenomenal leaders in our community.” The Edgewood Lions collected donations during the statewide Lions Food Drive on Sept. 12 outside Smith’s.
The club says the need is real: 1 in 4 New Mexico children go to bed hungry each day. The Lions’ motto is “We Serve,” and in Edgewood, the club says, “where there’s a need, there’s a Lion.”
Now the Lions want neighbors to lend a paw. Volunteers can help clean up the Edgewood Community Park playground from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, as part of a town effort to make play spaces safer for kids. Bring gloves, rakes and shovels. The town will provide trash bags, cold water and some equipment.
