Rio Rancho’s open desert has become an unofficial and unwelcome dumping ground, and Keep Rio Rancho Beautiful is asking residents to help take it back during the group’s annual Fall Community Cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8 to 10 a.m.
Unlike past cleanups focused on parks and neighborhoods, this year’s effort specifically targets the city’s open desert areas, where illegal dumping has grown into a persistent problem, according to KRRB.
The organization is placing 30-yard dumpsters at multiple desert locations so volunteer groups have somewhere to haul what they collect. Registration closes Sept. 18.
Residents can register as individuals or organize a group before the deadline.
