Drivers crossing the Rio Grande on Paseo Del Norte have two new sets of eyes clocking their speed. Bernalillo County activated automated speed cameras this week in the eastbound and westbound lanes near NM 423, extending a program that now covers roughly 15 locations countywide.
The county’s warning period runs through Sept. 30 — speeders get a mailed notice instead of a fine. Starting Oct. 1, violators face a $100 citation, or a reduced $25 fine paired with four hours of community service through the county’s Clean Team litter-pickup program. A sworn officer must review the footage before any citation goes out, and drivers can appeal to a hearing officer
