Sandoval County high school juniors and seniors have two more weeks to apply for the Junior County Treasurer Program, which now comes with a $5,000 scholarship for each student who completes it.
The Treasurer’s Office extended the deadline to Aug. 21 so students returning from summer break have time to submit required essays, Treasurer Jennifer A. Taylor said.
“We’re not just investing in our students’ futures; we’re cultivating the next generation of leaders,” Taylor said in a statement.
The semester-long program places two students in hands-on roles studying property tax collection and how those taxes fund public safety, education, community services and infrastructure. New this fall, UMB Bank is sponsoring a $5,000 scholarship for each participant who completes the program, usable for college, trade school, apprenticeship or certification costs. Applicants must submit a 350-word essay, an online application and a media release form by the deadline.
