New Mexico News’s Pat Davis spent more than twenty years as a police officer, community organizer and elected city councilor before becoming fascinated (some say obsessed) with the idea of challenge of saving local newspapers across New Mexico.
Today, New Mexico News Group is the state’s largest publisher with 8 news brands providing news from three newsrooms across the state.
In July, he sat down with Lorene Mills from PBS’s Report from Santa Fe just days after announcing a rescue plan to save the iconic Roswell Daily Record from closure. He talks about his road to becoming a news publisher, the deal to save the Roswell paper and how he is using sustainability principles to rebuild business plans for local news.
