Rio Rancho High School families flooded the office with calls this morning after spotting a heavy police presence on campus — but administrators say there’s nothing to worry about.
Principal Millan Baca sent a letter to families confirming multiple law enforcement agencies are running a scheduled training exercise at the school today, which may include occasional loud noises and a visibly larger police footprint.
“Everyone on campus is safe, and there is no threat to students, staff, or the school community,” Baca wrote, adding the drill helps first responders sharpen coordination for real emergencies.
The Rio Rancho Police Department confirmed officers are practicing active shooter response tactics on campus, working alongside paramedic crews to rapidly mitigate threats if a real one ever emerges.
RRPD thanked the volunteers and instructors who helped coordinate the exercise.
