Albuquerque’s speed camera network just got bigger — and if you’re still lead-footing it across town, the odds of getting caught just went up.
The city activated four new Automated Speed Enforcement cameras this week on Fourth Street near Griegos, Central at 61st Street eastbound and westbound, and Unser near Gwin — bringing the citywide total to 34 cameras on corridors selected using crash data, fatality and injury network maps and community input.
The program has issued roughly 766,000 citations since launching in 2022. Mayor Tim Keller said injury crashes are down and the data shows drivers are slowing down. Department of Municipal Development Director Jennifer Turner noted that speed cameras are catching on nationally because they enforce limits around the clock.
A 10% reduction in speed, the city says, can cut significant crashes by up to 19% and fatal crashes by 34%.
