Rio Rancho’s speed cameras issued 7,095 citations in May — nearly triple April’s total — as camera deployment shifted heavily onto Unser Boulevard, the city’s busiest north-south corridor.
Data from vendor Verra Mobility shows the Safe Traffic Operations Program monitored more than 1 million vehicle passes in May, flagging 12,996 violation events across 20 locations. Officers issued citations on 7,095 of them, generating up to $709,500 in potential fines at $100 each. The sharp increase reflects where cameras were placed: two Unser Boulevard locations alone accounted for 6,078 flagged events and 3,241 citations.
The camera at Unser Blvd. NE and Paseo del Volcan NE southbound was the single busiest location in May, flagging 4,762 drivers and producing 2,627 citations — more than the entire city issued in April. Lincoln Ave. NE near Camino Venada was second with 1,144 citations, followed by Cherry Rd. NE with 856.
