Visitors to Jemez Historic Site can explore the skies through the eyes of Southwestern Indigenous people at a free astronomy presentation this Saturday.
An instructional coordinator leads the program May 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., covering how Indigenous peoples of the Southwest observed and interpreted the world above them — and how they understood its connection to the world around them. Attendees will use special sun-viewing telescopes to observe the sun directly. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
The event is included with standard site admission of $7 for adults. Children 16 and younger, tribal members, New Mexico disabled veterans, NM foster families, MNMF members, and FCJHS members enter free.
The program is the first in a series, with future sessions scheduled June 20, July 18, Sept. 19, and Oct. 17.
