Rio Rancho Mayor-elect Paul Wymer takes his oath of office Thursday — and faces his first major budget decision the next morning.

The public swearing-in ceremony is set for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Rio Rancho City Hall (3200 Civic Center Circle). Wymer’s term officially begins May 1.

Wymer defeated retired teacher and former Sandoval County Democratic Party chair Alexandria Piland in the April 14 runoff, 63% to 37%, and has said his first order of business will be diving into the city’s finances — a budget hearing on the recommended FY 2027 plan is already on the calendar for May 1 at 9 a.m.

Wymer, a licensed architect and planner who has lived in Rio Rancho for more than 40 years, replaces outgoing three-term Mayor Gregg Hull, who is running for governor.
