Albuquerque — Last week, we reported that city officials had given the owner’s of Downtown’s Lindy’s Diner until May to prove the exterior wall of the 100-plus year old building was safe, but the wall gave an answer even sooner.

The exterior wall of the Bliss Building which houses the diner collapsed into the street this morning, prompting fire officials to close Central Ave. and 5th St. in the heart of Downtown.

City officials had ordered the building closed last week after city inspectors noted signs that previous efforts to shore up the bowing wall showed signs of stress. The owners had recently listed the building for sale for more than $2 million after unsuccessfully trying to sell in 2024.
