A Rio Rancho man faces five felony and misdemeanor charges after allegedly battering his mother, stealing her computer and other belongings โ and then smashing her truck’s windshield with a rock the day after his arrest, according to criminal complaints filed in Sandoval County Magistrate Court.
Rio Rancho police filed the first complaint on April 15 after responding to the family’s Tierra del Norte Loop home on April 14, where the suspect was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, battery against a household member and larceny over $500. According to the complaint, the suspect took a computer, computer bag and miscellaneous documents belonging to the victim.
The suspect was released from the Sandoval County Detention Center the afternoon of April 15. That same evening, police responded to the same address after the victim reported her vehicle’s windshield had been shattered.
A neighbor’s video showed the suspect picking up a large river rock and throwing it at the victim’s truck twice, according to the second complaint filed April 16. Police noted the suspect had walked past the residence in violation of his conditions of release. A second set of charges โ aggravated stalking in violation of a protection order and criminal damage to property of a household member over $1,000 โ followed.
Both cases are pending in Sandoval County Magistrate Court. Combined, the suspect faces two fourth-degree felonies from the first complaint and two additional fourth-degree felonies plus a misdemeanor from the second.
