The Paper. — Two Navajo Nation Police officers were injured Friday morning during a shooting in the community of To’hajiilee, sparking a localized shelter-in-place order.

The New Mexico State Police confirmed to news outlets they are leading the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. According to a social media post from the Navajo Police Department, officers were initially dispatched to the area near Navajo Housing at To’hajiilee following reports of individuals shooting in the vicinity. The To’hajilee Chapter straddles the far western end of Bernalillo County and eastern Cibola County near Laguna.

Details regarding the condition of the two officers have not been released. State Police confirmed the suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Residents in To’hajiilee were advised to remain indoors while the scene was processed, though authorities have not yet confirmed if the shelter-in-place order has been lifted.
