A new fire station and improvements to the water system and wastewater treatment plant are among the items the Bernalillo Town Council is set to discuss Monday.

Those are among 21 projects listed in the town’s long-range infrastructure capital improvement plan for the 2027 to 2031 fiscal years. The total price tag for all the items is just under $87.93 million, of which $9.4 million is already funded.

Staff say the fire station is a $10 million project, and Bernalillo has $8 million in hand for it. According to the agenda, the remainder would be placed in the fiscal year 2027 budget.

The cost includes design, remodeling and new construction on the site, as well as furnishing and equipping the fire station. Work includes multiple apparatus/vehicle bays, living quarters and multiple all-purpose rooms.

The wastewater treatment plant improvements have a $20 million price tag. The town has $750,000 set aside for the project, with plans to put $16.25 million in the fiscal year 2027 budget and fund the remainder the following year.

The cost includes new ultraviolet disinfection equipment, a wash water pump station, grit separation equipment, fall protection and other items.

The project was conceived based on a needs analysis done in accordance with the Town’s wastewater treatment plant master plan, staff say.

According to the agenda, the project would be done in two phases, with a total time of three years to completion.

The water system improvements are funded at $650,000. The remainder of the $3.15 million project cost would be budgeted for fiscal year 2027.

The money would be used to improve and rehabilitate Bernalillo’s aging water distribution system and acquire needed easements and rights-of-way.

Work to be done includes upgrading the town’s three water wells and four water storage reservoir tanks and replacing and relocating water mains and service lines in various areas.

Other items on the list include rehabilitation of the Molino Building, energy efficiency conversions of town buildings, park improvements and a swimming pool replacement.

Also on the agenda is a resolution regarding disposal of decommissioned information technology equipment. The list includes dozens of laptop and desktop computers, printers, monitors and other devices determined to be obsolete.

Town Clerk Ida Fierro wrote in the agenda that any device containing sensitive information was subject to a three-pass sanitization process to ensure complete erasure.
