In July 1947, a community newspaper in Roswell, New Mexico became an American journalism institution. It’s report of a flying saucer crash on a ranch outside of town have spawned countless movies, television series, books and an entire UFO culture.

But for the people of Roswell, the Roswell Daily Record is more than a single story. Like newspapers across the country, the paper has been the county’s only regular source for local information on the city council, school board, high school sports victories and a source of community pride since 1893.

In July 2026, the owners announced the paper had printed its last issue. Within a few days, a group of New Mexico journalists and papers stepped in to give it a new lifeline and new ownership. Read more.

The nonprofit Citizen Media Group raises nonprofit grants and donations to support local journalists reporting in newsrooms across New Mexico. Donations designated to the Daily Record will be bundled to help save these critical journalism jobs through grants for local news reporting. 100% of reader donations support local journalists in the Roswell Daily Record.
