Sandoval Signpost

Always free. Only Sandoval County. Here’s your afternoon check-in on what’s making news around Sandoval County and New Mexico.

It’s Tuesday, August 12th and today’s issue of the Signpost is all about big plans.

Sandoval County is one of the state’s most populated counties and New the fastest-growing, yet thousands of residents in pretty urban areas still include dirt roads in their daily commute.

An ambitious new $78 million road project aims to change that – but maybe not as fast as everyone would hope.

Speaking of development, officials in Corrales are taking the next step towards converting a mostly rural residential area into an office/commercial district. Zoning issues are rarely easy in the historic district. Rodd Cayton looks into the plan village councilors will consider later this month.

Meanwhile, county commissioners are preparing to hear a proposal to rezone over 500 acres of vacant land into a new industrial park and Rio Rancho officials have their eye on redevelopment for solar and neighborhood master plan changes. See where those are and why that matters now in our report below.

Don’t miss: Rep. Melanie Stansbury held a packed town hall in Sandoval County yesterday. Editor Kevin Hendricks shares what she told locals.
