Challenger Fred Hashimoto leads incumbent Jim Fahey in early voting in Corrales’ mayor race.
Partial early voting numbers posted within the past few minutes by the county clerk and secretary of state show that Hashimoto earned 1,421 votes to Fahey’s 963 — a 59.6% to 40.4% split.
While other early and election day results are still uncounted, these first 2,384 votes are a large portion of expected turnout. Just 2,633 votes were cast in the last mayor’s election.
Countywide, early voting accounts for about half of total voter turnout, according to data from Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver reviewed by nm.news and the Corrales Comment.
Final vote counting is now underway in Sandoval County.
