Your daily dose of local democracy.
Here’s what you need to know to about how ABQ works (and doesn’t) today in 3 minutes or less.
Today is Tuesday, August 5th.
Tonight is National Night Out and dozens of neighborhoods are making plans to take over their local park (or a neighbor’s front yard) to catch a meal, meet a neighbor and chat it up with their neighborhood first responders. We have the official list below.
From our sister newsroom at NM Political Report, former State Senator Dede Feldman reminds us that fleeing Texas to deny a quorum during a rigged redistricting fight isn’t new.
Remember the time Texas Dems fled… to the Albuqeurque Mariott? Dede was there and brings us the inside scoop.
A meeting and a show

City Council has a rule that requires you to sign up for public comment, but it doesn’t require you to use your real name. And there is definitely not a dress code – as councilors found out when “Wobbles T. Wobbly” signed up last night.
The speaker, dressed as a puppet and holding a stuffed orange cat, used his two minutes to tell of his adventures “wandering the regional prefectures between the War Zone and Casino Del Bosque” and protest fascism. Photo by Jesse Jones, City Desk ABQ

Bernalillo County commissioners passed a resolution defending the U.S. Constitution and challenging current federal administration policies they say threaten county residents’ rights and access to essential services. The Aug. 4 resolution, sponsored by Commission Chair Eric Olivas and Vice-Chair Adriann Barboa, directly addresses how federal policy changes could affect the county’s 676,000 residents — particularly […]

What else we’re reading this afternoon…
We can’t write it all so we share our roundup of the best in independent New Mexico News.
At City Desk, we’re not here to write a story about what already happened. We’re here to explain who makes decisions that impact our city and how you can engage in the conversation. Do you have an idea for a story or want to know how something works in ABQ? Email me at pat@newmexico.news and we might turn it into a story.
Did you miss something? It’s all here at citydesk.org
