By Melanie Becker-Donovan, The Roswell Daily Record — LifeHouse Roswell is hosting an open house to welcome the community and introduce its behavioral health services. The open house will take place on Nov. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. at 9 East Challenger St. “We wanted to host an open house to welcome the community into our facility, introduce our team and give residents an opportunity to see firsthand what we’re building here in Roswell,” stated Regional Director at LifeHouse Carlsbad, Maura Schanefelt. LifeHouse Roswell officially opened its doors in June. The organization is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC).
According to Schanefelt, the organization has used community outreach, stakeholder conversations and the Community Needs Assessment (CNA) system process to help them identify the needs of local residents. Barriers were considered, including transportation, financial concerns, provider availability and difficulty navigating multiple systems.
LifeHouse Roswell serves children, adolescents and adults. Those services include mental health care, substance use treatment and crisis services, all under one organization. The focus is on whole-person care, also including physical care, housing and family relationships. “The organization encourages the insured, uninsured and underinsured residents to reach out to discuss services and potential financial assistance or payment options,” stated Schanefelt. “A person does not need to know exactly which services they need before reaching out.”
The 100% Chaves County initiative survey, which was conducted between December 2022 and June 2023, measured need, quality of life and access to basic surviving and thriving services in the county. The initiative is working to ensure that all families in the county have access to the 10 vital services, including medical and dental care, behavioral healthcare, food security programs, transportation, parent supports, early childhood learning programs, community schools with family services, youth mentor programs and job training.
An initial sample of 694 responses were recorded. After removing duplicate responses, responses from those who did not consent to complete the survey, responses from those who did not answer any questions about services and any responses that appeared invalid, the final sample size used in this analysis is 598 respondents.
Here are some of the results: Out of 92% of residents needing the service, 50% reported difficulty accessing medical care; of 39% needing the service, 45% reported difficulty accessing behavioral healthcare; of 50% needing the service, 40% reported difficulty accessing food security programs and of 19% needing the service, 55% reported difficulty accessing housing security programs.
The organization has a variety of programs, two of which are the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) which focuses on choices, coping skills, reflection and sustainable change.
“We want to help people access support before their challenges become crises,” stated Schanefelt.”
Residents are invited to attend the open house to meet the team, learn more about the services offered and discover how LifeHouse can support individuals and families in the community. Maura Schanefelt
