By Josh Franklin, Roswell Daily Record — The Roswell Coyotes football team picked up a 52-15 road victory over Mayfield on Oct. 24
It wasn’t the usual Friday night lights matchup. The game kicked off at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Field of Dreams in Las Cruces, but the result was familiar: another dominant district win for Roswell.
The Coyotes have scored at least 48 points in each of their six district games this season, outscoring opponents 317-103 over that span. The Coyotes improved to 8-1 overall and remained perfect at 6-0 in district play, while Mayfield fell to 2-7 and 2-4.
Quarterback Andruw Fuentez finished with 315 total yards, passing for 247 and rushing for 68. He ran for two touchdowns and threw touchdown passes to wideouts Izaic Gonzales and Danny Castro. Running back Luis Rodriguez added two rushing touchdowns, and kicker Benjamin Vera added a field goal.
Mayfield’s Israel Cabañas caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Levi Montez. The first tied the game 7-7 early in the first quarter. The second came in the fourth, followed by a two-point conversion by Montez that made it 45-15.
Wideout Zeke Barrientos scored Roswell’s final touchdown on a run as the Coyotes closed out the 52-15 victory.
Roswell was No. 1 in the NMAA’s Class 5A football rankings released Oct. 25, positioning the Coyotes for a potential return to the top playoff seed. Roswell earned the No. 1 seed in 2024 before entering the 2025 playoffs as the No. 2 seed.
