Goddard Days in Roswell was a special two-day event held by the city to honor the scientist who worked to develop rocketry in the area with a model rocket launch at Cielo Grande Recreation Area. “The biggest thing is to promote science for the kids and promote Robert Goddard and what he did in Roswell, New Mexico,” said Roswell Recreation Supervisor Joe Vargas. “We wanted the state to know that Robert Goddard did his experiments here. Robert Goddard is the father of rockets. He is the reason we went to the moon.”
The Roswell High School girls volleyball team escaped with a win in a five-set match against Artesia, coming from behind to defeat the previously unbeaten Lady Bulldogs 13-15, 15-8, 9-15, 15-8, 15-8 inside a fan jammed Coyote Cavern. “We’ve been going five sets quite a bit.” Lady Coyotes Coach Bryan Masse said. “We’ve been in (5-gamers) so many times and not made the plays and this time we made them.”
