After a two-game hiatus, Roswell head coach Jeff Lynn hopes his lead running back Luis Rodriguez can return ahead of the Coyotes (6-1, 4-0) matchup against Artesia (4-3, 4-0).
Rodriguez’s status remains uncertain after he missed Roswell’s triumphs over Chaparral (3-4, 0-4) and Gadsden (5-2, 2-2). The last time he saw action came against Deming (1-6, 0-4) in a 48-12 win at Memorial Stadium. In that game, he posted seven carries for 56 yards and a touchdown.
On the season Rodriguez has been a rushing machine, averaging over 100 yards per game, 504 total, and just over nine yards per carry. The junior running back has boasted 100+ yard games in three of the five contests he’s played in and five rushing touchdowns on the season.
“I mean, we’ve got some injuries. We need to get Luis Rodriguez back, and we had a kid get injured tonight,” Lynn said on Oct. 2. We deal with bye weeks every year. … So we’ve got a system that we use to handle that bye week, and we’ll be ready.”
With Artesia boasting the best defense in the district and Roswell holding the No. 2 scoring offense, Rodriguez’s return could play a huge factor in how much success Lynn’s offense has at the Bulldog Bowl.
Lynn has already praised his offensive line’s ability to win in the trenches, and with another lethal weapon in the backfield, the high-octane Coyotes could shift into another gear on the ground against Artesia on October 16.
