Six Placitas gardens open their gates to the public Sept. 13 as the Placitas Garden Tour marks its 10th year highlighting high desert landscaping and habitat for birds and pollinators.
This year’s self-guided tour stretches from the west side of Placitas to the far northeast end of the community, featuring gardens named “Wildlife Sanctuary,” “A Garden in Harmony,” “Working With What You Got,” “Transitions,” “Garden on the Mesa” and “A Place of Shadow,” according to tour organizers.
Native plants that feed and shelter birds and pollinating insects are a running theme this year, organizers said, part of a decade-long mission to teach high desert gardening, promote conservation and horticulture education, and raise money for volunteer organizations.
Advance tickets are available online, at the Placitas Merc, the Placitas Community Library and select Albuquerque nurseries. Day-of tickets sell Sept. 13 at Homestead Village and the Community Library in Placitas.
