We asked locals to share their favorite things to do in their neighborhood during Balloon Fiesta. Here’s Corrales Mayor Fred Hashimoto with his tips for planning your visit to the historic Village of Corrales.
Welcome to the Village of Corrales, Balloon Fiesta visitors!
Corrales is a rural community bordered on the east by the Rio Grande river, to the south by Albuquerque, and to the north and west by Rio Rancho. We have a long history of agriculture, including farming, ranching, and vineyards. Many balloons that launch from Balloon Fiesta Park will find their way into Corrales for their landing. Our large lot sizes and open spaces allow for beautiful views of the balloons against the backdrop of the spectacular Sandia mountains.
In addition to the views, the Village has many events for visitors looking for something fun to do between morning and evening ballooning events.
The 38th Annual Old Church Fine Arts Show and Sale takes place October 3 – 11, 10 AM – 5 PM daily, at 966 Old Church Road. The Friends of the Corrales Library will be holding their annual fall book sale fundraiser October 3 and 4 from 9 AM – 4 PM at 84 W. La Entrada. Visit our Growers’ Market on Sunday and Wednesday that week from 9 AM –12 PM along Corrales Road between Jones Road and Double S Road to sample some delicious breakfast burritos and locally grown produce.
We have many locally-owned businesses along Corrales Road including some wonderful restaurants and art galleries. MainStreet’s annual scarecrow contest will also be taking place during this week, with local businesses displaying their scarecrow entries throughout the village.
