New Mexicans in Albuquerque’s Westside and most of southern New Mexico are getting an early taste this week of the political ads set to take over the airwaves and digital devices through November.

The national Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) said this week they are launching a new ad campaign profiling Democratic Congressman Gabe Vasquez’s record in Congress protecting public lands and funding wildfire response. The ad will run on YouTube, Vix, and a variety of other streaming platforms, according to the DCCC. The group declined to provide a budget for the campaign.

The campaign will also appear in a Spanish-language version.

Vasquez is seeking reelection in New Mexico’s Second Congressional District which is has long been a swing seat electing both Democrats and Republicans over the past two decades. It became slightly more Democratic after redistricting earlier this decade that added some Westside Albuquerque neighborhoods to the sprawling district that stretches from Albuquerque to Roswell. Republican Greg Cunningham is challenging Vasquez.

The 2026 midterm elections are expected to be highly contested by both parties who are seeking political control of the U.S. House of Representatives where Republicans currently have a 1 vote advantage.
