The Paper. in Rio Rancho

Your daily guide to living in the City of Vision.

Today is Wednesday, July 29 and here’s what’s making news in the City of Visionโ€ฆ

A Placitas woman missing since 1996 was found buried in her own backyard. Ann Lombard Taylor’s children spent 30 years with no answers โ€” only a husband’s story about a fight and a disappearance that her eldest son said never fit who his mother was. In May, new owners excavating the property found her buried remains wrapped in a blanket and tarp. DNA confirmed the identification this week.

The outgoing Democratic sheriff is endorsing the Republican in the fall race. Sheriff Jesse James Casaus, term-limited out after eight years, is backing Republican Victor Rodriguez over Democratic nominee John Paul Trujillo โ€” a rare cross-party move from a sitting sheriff. “Public safety is not a partisan issue,” Casaus wrote in his endorsement letter. The Democratic Party chair called it a break from Democratic values.
