The male loneliness epidemic has been somewhat of a social buzzword that’s been trending on social media for a few years now, and for good reason. Men today are more at risk of suicide, addiction and stagnation than ever before, which begs the question: Why?
Former New Mexico Representative and Cabinet Secretary Bill McCamley might have some of the answers, or at least directions to them. Described as “Not self-help. Not blame. Not the Manosphere. Just an honest conversation for men who feel lost, angry, unheard, and are ready for something better,” McCamley’s new book is titled Right My Dudes… Now What? The author is celebrating the publication of the book with an event at Books on the Bosque on August 9 at 2 p.m.

McCamley will be joined by two sitting state legislators for a raw, candid public conversation on the current challenges facing men and boys in the U.S. today. They’ll be focusing on problems like young men falling behind in school and their relationships as well as the high rates of male death by suicide and drug overdose. The panel will also discuss what lawmakers, schools and communities can do to help reverse this spreading problem.
“The data on how boys and men are doing, in school, at work, and in their own mental health, is in many ways heartbreaking and hard to ignore. But the conversation around it often gets stuck in a fight over who deserves attention,” said McCamley in a press release. “This isn’t a zero-sum issue. Helping our sons, brothers and co-workers thrive makes families and communities stronger for everyone.”
To find out more, be sure to attend the open panel, with free admission for the public and time for audience feedback and questions at Books on the Bosque (6261 Riverside Plaza Ln. Suite A-2) from 2 p.m to 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 9. To pick up your own copy of the Right My Dudes… Now What? or to find out more, check out billmccamley.net/.
