Rio Rancho speed cameras issued 3,400+ citations in March

Rio Rancho's automated speed cameras flagged more than 4,400 drivers in March and issued 3,423 citations

Rio Rancho drivers racked up more than 3,400 speeding citations in March — generating up to $342,300 in potential fines — as the city’s automated speed camera network completed its second full month of live enforcement.

Data from program vendor Verra Mobility shows cameras monitored 380,635 vehicles in March, flagging 4,484 violation events. Rio Rancho Police Department officers reviewed those events and issued 3,423 citations — a 76% approval rate.

Each citation carries a $100 fine. Violations trigger at 11 mph over the posted limit on city roads, or 5 mph over in school zones.

March’s total marked a slight decline from February, when the system generated 4,856 violation events in its first full enforcement month. On a per-day basis the drop is more meaningful: February averaged roughly 173 flagged events per day; March averaged about 145 — a 16% decline.

The city does not publish camera locations or rotation schedules.
