Experiments in Cinema v21.5 (Thursday 16, Film)
Albuquerque’s homegrown, international experimental film festival comes back for what looks to be its 21st year of existence. It runs Thursday, April 16 through Sunday, April 19 at Nob Hill’s Guild Cinema (3405 Central Ave. NE). In addition to films from around the world, Experiments in Cinema v21.5 includes a presentation of queer experimental shorts curated by Roberto Appicciafoco of Way OUT West Film Festival, films from the EXiS Festival in Korea, a program of recent short films from the Third Coast Dance Film Festival, a retrospective of films by Dominic Angeramea and live performances by Lynne Sachs/Lizzie Oleske and 99 Hooker. Of Mice and Men (Thursday 16, Performance)
Adobe Theater (9813 Fourth St. NW) opens a production of John Steinbeck’s 1937 classic Of Mice and Men on Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. The poignant tragedy centers on two migrant farm workers, George and Lennie, as they navigate rural California life during the Great Depression. The play runs Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through May 3. Tickets run $10 to $26 and can be purchased online at adobetheater.org/tickets/.
Route 66: Roads & Rails Transportation Festival (Saturday 18, Festival)
The official 100th anniversary of Route 66 is still a little ways off, but Albuquerque is gearing up. The Route 66: Roads & Rails Transportation Festival rolls into the Wheels Museum (1100 Second St. SW) on Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, visitors can experience a steam locomotive, giant trucks, a car show, trolley, bike and walking tours as well as special transportation-related talks, exhibits and community meetups. Local food trucks and vendors will be on hand, and there’s live music all weekend from award-winning bands The Kipsies, Shane Wallen, Red Light Cameras and more.
