A Love Letter to Black Wall (Fri. 16, Art/Music)

Black Wall Gallery & Events (2125 San Mateo Blvd. NE), Albuquerque’s coolest art and music venue is hosting a fundraiser. If you believe in the Black Wall mission, you are invited to be there on Friday, Jan. 16 starting at 6 p.m. for live music, food, a silent art auction and a raffle for 12 free shows. This is also an interactive event. A Love Letter to Black Wall includes participation from you! Please join in by sending a DM via Facebook or Instagram explaining why you love Black Wall. All letters will be posted as part of an installation. Help support Black Wall to continue to support the local artistic community. A $15 suggested donation gets you in the door.

Anthropology (Fri. 16, Performance)

Adobe Theater (9813 Fourth St. NW) is mounting Lauren Gunderson’s play Anthropology, a contemporary, “edge of your seat” thriller directed by Pete Parkin. The story concerns a brilliant tech-savvy AI programmer who refuses to accept the mysterious disappearance of her younger sister. Using data, digital footprints and artificial intelligence, she launches her own investigation — blurring the lines between truth, memory and grief. It opens Friday, Jan. 16 and runs Jan. 16 through Feb. 1 with performances at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays. General admission is $26 with $17 student tickets. There are additional performances on Thursday, Jan. 22 and Thursday, Jan. 19. These special Thursday performances are only $10. Live and Let Die: The Music of Paul McCartney (Sat. 17, Performance)

If you couldn’t make it out to the Paul McCartney concert last year at Isleta Amphitheater (or if you’re that big a fan), you need to head to KiMo Theater (423 Central Ave. NW) for the critically-acclaimed musical stage show Live and Let Die: The Music of Paul McCartney featuring Tony Kishman, veteran of the Broadway hit musical Beatlemania. The show is described as “a dynamic full multimedia concert production that has set high performance standards as it celebrates the music of Paul McCartney.” It happens Saturday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. and tickets will run you $25 to $45 (artsandculture.cabq.gov/11733/11751).

TNA Wrestling (Thu. 22, Sports)

TNA Wrestling presents two nights of high-energy pro wrestling on Thursday & Friday, Jan. 22 & 23, at Tingley Coliseum (300 San Pedro Dr. NE). The first Albuquerque show on Jan. 22 is a live broadcast of “Thursday Night iMPACT!” airing on AMC. Doors to Tingley Coliseum open at 5 p.m. local time, with the event starting at 6 p.m. Night two in on Jan. 23 will be taped for future episodes of “Thursday Night iMPACT!” Doors to the venue open Jan. 23 at 6 p.m., with the event starting at 7 p.m. local time. Tickets are on-sale now at TIXR.com. Prices range from $51.47 to $93.75 depending on seating.

Vienna Teng (Fri. 23, Music)

Internationally renowned “chamber folk” songwriter Vienna Teng comes to Chatter (912 Third St. NW) this Friday, Jan. 23. Since 2002 her works has garnered fans from NPR to David Letterman to David Byrne. Vienna’s latest release, the mini-EP We’ve Got You, reflects the complexity of her life over the past decade: climate change work, community building, parenthood. The genre-bending pianist and singer hits the stage starting at 7:30 p.m. This is an all-ages show. Sadness, Madness & Mayhem III (Sat. 24, Performance)

Dust City Opera’s third annual Sadness, Madness & Mayhem costume ball moves to The Historic El Rey Theater (622 Central Ave. SW) on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. This otherworldly extravaganza brings together New Mexico’s finest performing artists to celebrate alternative folk music, circus culture, haute haunted fashion and mystical entertainment. Enjoy live music, carnival games, circus performances, photo booths and more. Dress to impress, confuse, amaze or horrify! The night is headlined, of course, by New Mexico’s own alt-rock orchestra Dust City Opera with support from Giovanni String Quartet and Movement Caravan Circus Troupe!
