Winter sports enthusiasts across New Mexico have a chance to stock up on gear and equipment this weekend as the annual New Mexico Ski Swap returns to Expo New Mexico.

The three-day event, which began Friday, serves as the largest fundraiser for the all-volunteer Sandia Peak Ski Patrol and has been a state tradition since 1967.

The swap features a massive selection of alpine and Nordic skis, snowboards, boots, clothing and accessories from both individual sellers and vendors. All proceeds support the ski patrol’s nonprofit operations, including essential equipment like toboggans and medical supplies, as well as training programs.

The event kicked off Friday with public gear drop-off from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., followed by a VIP pre-sale from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The VIP sale costs $20 per person, with children 12 and under admitted free with a paying adult.

The main public sale opens Saturday at 9 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m., with admission priced at $2 per person. The sale continues Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the same admission price.

Consignors set their own prices for equipment, with the ski patrol retaining a commission on all sales. The event offers free parking for those dropping off and picking up items.

Safety remains a priority at the swap. All ski bindings are checked against industry standards to ensure they meet manufacturer requirements. Equipment deemed unserviceable or certain outdated items are not accepted for resale.

The event comes as many of New Mexico’s ski areas prepare to open later this month.

Consignors must return Sunday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to collect unsold items and payment checks.
