The town of Mountainair has completed its Roosevelt Street reconstruction project, with only parking space striping remaining, Mayor Peter Nieto announced Thursday.
The project, which had been under discussion for several years, was completed weeks ahead of the early 2026 timeline announced in October. Striping work was scheduled for Friday.
“The results look fantastic — a true improvement for our community,” Nieto said in a statement.
The Roosevelt Street project is part of a broader infrastructure improvement initiative that includes curb-to-curb rebuilds and the expansion of some roads by more than six feet. While many Mountainair streets have had curbs for years, they haven’t been used in recent decades, Nieto said.
The town completed micro-sealing work on three other streets in October: Sunset Avenue, Third Street, and part of Cedardale Avenue. Additional road improvements are planned for spring 2026 with newly secured funding, according to the mayor.
Nieto credited the Public Works Department for the project’s completion, including former Town Clerk Dennis Fulfer, Public Works Supervisor Carl Archuleta and crew members Daniel Archuleta, Robert John Torres, TJ Lopez and Juan Rubi. He also thanked current Town Clerk Mary Zamora for her continued support.
The town is simultaneously undertaking what Nieto has called “the largest cleanup and improvement effort in Mountainair’s history.” More than five residents have signed up to have old, unsafe and dilapidated structures removed from their properties, with more than a dozen properties expected to participate overall.
The town offers payment plans to make structural removal affordable. Residents interested in participating can call Town Hall for information.
The Mountainair Town Council has approved and supported the infrastructure projects, Nieto said.
