The Estancia Public Library reopened Friday, two days after a vehicle struck electrical equipment outside the facility, forcing a temporary closure.

The library closed indefinitely Tuesday after the collision damaged electrical boxes, requiring Central New Mexico Electric Cooperative to shut off power to the building. The facility resumed normal operating hours Friday following repairs by the cooperative and contractor TLC, according to a social media post from library staff.

Library staff turned over security camera footage of the incident to the Estancia Police Department. No information was immediately available about potential suspects or whether charges have been filed.

The facility, known as the Williams Memorial Library, opened in 2005 after Estancia received a $1 million trust from Corinne Williams French and her brother, Willis Williams, in honor of their parents, Henry Clay and Jennie Gertrude Williams, who homesteaded south of Estancia from 1904 to 1940.

The library traces its origins to 1906, when the A.H. Garnett family donated a large book collection housed in the basement of the Methodist Church.
