Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a 47-year-old Albuquerque man following an alleged road rage incident that occurred Oct. 16 in Torrance County.

The Torrance County Sheriff’s Office filed a criminal complaint charging the man with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

According to court documents, the incident began when the suspect allegedly followed a woman in a black Dodge Charger while driving a gold Chevrolet Cobalt. The woman reported the suspect attempted to pass her, prompting her to drive toward the center of the road to avoid being overtaken.

The suspect then allegedly struck the rear of the victim’s vehicle two to three times, causing damage to the driver’s side door panels, according to the complaint. The woman described the suspect’s vehicle as moving in a circle through a nearby neighborhood in an attempt to intercept her.

A witness who contacted the Torrance County Dispatch during the incident reported seeing two vehicles “hauling ass” and described what appeared to be street racing. The witness said the gold-colored car rammed the black vehicle two to three times from the rear and attempted to pass on the passenger side.

The victim drove to a local convenience store to meet with deputies. Photographs taken at the scene show scuff marks on the rear bumper of the Dodge Charger, paint chippings and scratches on the passenger side tail lamp area, and gouge marks below the door handles on the driver’s side doors from the alleged ramming.

According to the affidavit, this was the second incident between the suspect and victim. The woman told authorities she feared the suspect would attempt to kill her and return to her residence. She was advised to stay at a safe location rather than going home.
