An Edgewood man was sentenced Oct. 1 for the death of a man on Christmas Eve 2023.
On Dec. 24, 2023, the Edgewood Police Department responded to a call on Aspen Drive and found 49-year-old Brian Enright not breathing. After an attempt at lifesaving measures, they were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead. His body had 20 bruises on his arm and torso, according to court documents. Officers on the scene of the incident determined that the circumstances of the man’s death were suspicious.
The active investigation went to court, according to Edgewood Community Liaison Linda Burke.
The investigation led to the arrest of Enright’s stepson, Darius Welch, who was originally charged with second-degree murder. According to court records, he had punched and beaten Enright.
Welch was sentenced for voluntary manslaughter and handed to the Department of Corrections, according to Burke. He was sentenced to six years behind bars for the incident.
