The Town of Estancia and Torrance County will receive a combined $2.25 million in state transportation funding to improve local roads, the New Mexico Department of Transportation announced this week.
The funding comes through NMDOT’s Transportation Project Fund program, which awarded $16.3 million to 13 local governments across District Five. Statewide, the program distributed $100.4 million to 71 projects.
Estancia will receive $950,000 for Lassiter Street improvements, while Torrance County was awarded funding for two projects: $957,388 for the Alan Ayers Road Project and $343,465 for the Charlie Breckenridge Road Project.
The Transportation Project Fund provides a 95% state match for local infrastructure projects, with municipalities covering the remaining 5%.
“The Transportation Project Fund provides a great opportunity for our local counties, cities and tribal governments to receive funding for various transportation-related projects,” said Rhonda Lopez, NMDOT District 5 Engineer. “Without this resource, many of these municipalities would not be able to fund these vital infrastructure projects that are important to each of their communities.”
Other recipients in District Five include the Town of Red River, which received the largest award at $2.85 million for High Streets improvements, and Santa Fe County, which was awarded $1.9 million for the Avenida del Sur Extension.
Additional funding went to Rio Arriba County ($2.8 million), Village of Questa ($2 million for two projects), San Juan County ($1.15 million), Navajo Nation ($1.62 million), City of Bloomfield ($990,334) and Taos County ($748,066 for two projects).
NMDOT District Five oversees transportation projects for nine tribes, six counties and 10 municipalities, including 10 school districts.
