Bernalillo County Parks, Recreation and Open Space is offering free pickleball sessions at the Vista Grande Community Center, providing residents with regular opportunities to play the increasingly popular racquet sport.

The program runs Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the facility located at 15 La Madera Road in Sandia Park.

Players must register online at berncopros.perfectmind.com to participate in the sessions. The county notes that schedules and times are subject to change.

Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong and has grown rapidly in popularity across the United States in recent years. The sport is played on a court roughly the size of a badminton court with a net similar to tennis, but lower.

The Vista Grande Community Center can be reached at (505) 468-7500 for additional information about the program or facility.
