By Connor Currier — “There were a lot of people that stopped by while we were closed and were really appreciative of what we do within the community,” said Tamar Randall, the Executive Director for Talking Talons. “It’s kind of a community hub where people meet, volunteer and wander around looking for things.”
Talking Talons reopened their store on Aug. 14., after being closed for over a month due to a flood on July 12.
Recently, the store suffered from a severe flood that led to a forced temporary close down of the beloved local store.
The flooding had caused significant water damage to the interior of the shop. According to Randall the flood caused thousands of dollars in damages as the store’s flooring needed a full replacement and other water damages around the shop.
The store is waiting on insurance to see what will be covered, but they are concerned about the financial situation.
“We’re available to take donations either through our website or in our store,” said Randall. “The Thrift store also supports some of our programming, so we are able to reach more use.”
Additionally they’re continuing their Talking Talons Youth Leadership Programs (ages 10-25) that focuses on environmental education and community building.
“It’s to elevate youth and community to become effective advocates and ethical stewards of themselves, wildlife habitats and the environment. Giving them environmental education and helping them really love the planet and get off the screen!,” Randall said.
