The Edgewood Town Commission will hold its next regular meeting on July 8, with major decisions on public safety, finances and community events on the agenda.
A key item will be final approval of the town’s budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Resolution 2025-031 would formally adopt the FY2025–2026 budget, following weeks of review and input from town staff and elected officials.
If passed, the resolution will be sent to the State of New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration for approval and certification.
The commission will also consider Resolution 2025-032, which would create an All-Stop Safety Policy.
The policy would give all town employees, appointees and elected officials the authority to immediately stop any operation or activity they believe presents an imminent safety risk.
The goal is to strengthen the town’s safety culture by empowering anyone to act quickly when hazards are identified.
Another item on the agenda is the approval of alcohol permits for the upcoming Pirate and Viking Festival.
Local and regional vendors seeking permission to serve include 4Norsmens Mead, Little Toad Creek Brewery, Mystic Ambrosia Mead, Dark Stranger Mead and Sheehan Winery.
The commission will also consider the purchase of new equipment for the Road Department—a screener used for processing crushed stone, sand, gravel and other materials, separating them by size.
In addition, commissioners will discuss several budgeted pay adjustments, including merit increases, shift differentials and law enforcement grants.
Additionally, a date is expected to be set for interviews of candidates for the permanent Town Clerk-Treasurer job, which is currently filled by a temporary appointee.
The commission will also receive updates from the Community Liaison’s report.
The Community Liaison report showcases recent projects such as the town’s Discover Edgewood tourism campaign, a potential Sunset Market this fall, a student intern program, long-term planning for the town’s water utility, branding and recreation programs.
The June Check Report shows over $1.39 million in payments for services ranging from engineering and equipment to IT and animal control.
