The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners formally accepted nearly $26 million in state capital outlay appropriations during its June 24 meeting.
The funding, secured during the 2025 New Mexico legislative session, will support a broad range of projects aimed at improving housing, healthcare, infrastructure, and public safety throughout the county.
“This resolution brings to life an ambitious set of projects made possible through months of collaboration and advocacy,” said Commission Chair Eric Olivas (District 5). “We are deeply grateful to the Legislature, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and our county leadership for making these transformative investments possible.”
Of the $25.9 million allocated, $19.45 million will go directly to county-led initiatives, while more than $6.5 million will support nonprofit organizations working in critical service areas.
Commissioners from all five districts voiced support for the resolution and the diverse benefits the funds will bring to their communities.
Projects set to receive funding include:
- Affordable Housing: Funding is sought for a 60-unit affordable housing complex to serve low- to moderate-income seniors, a key priority for Bernalillo County.
- Youth Services Center Medical Expansion: Improvements are requested for the Youth Services Center, specifically a medical expansion to enhance care for residents in juvenile detention.
- Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) Improvements: Funding is being sought for critical infrastructure upgrades and operational equipment at the MDC.
- East Mountain Sports Complex: $500,000 was sought for renovations to this community sports complex.
- PB&J Family Services Redevelopment: Funding was requested for the redevelopment of the PB&J Family Services building into the Bernalillo County Early Learning Center.
