To improve access to safe and affordable housing, Housing New Mexico has launched the Statewide Landlord Incentive Program (SLIP) in partnership with the State of New Mexico.

The program is now accepting applications through June 30, 2026, or until funding is exhausted.

SLIP aims to increase the availability of rental units for New Mexicans who rely on housing vouchers by offering financial reimbursements to landlords who participate in voucher-based rental programs.

Landlords who rent to tenants using assistance such as Housing Choice Vouchers, Emergency Solutions Grant Rapid Rehousing and Homelessness Prevention, Linkages, or other state, local or federal programs are eligible.

Through SLIP, landlords can receive up to $12,500 per unit per occupancy to offset costs associated with preparing and maintaining rental properties.

“This program is another way we can work together to provide safe, affordable housing for New Mexicans,” said Donna Maestas-De Vries, Housing New Mexico Chief Housing Officer. “We encourage landlords renting to housing voucher holders to take advantage of this funding opportunity.”

Eligible reimbursements include:

  • Repairs to meet housing code standards
  • Damage caused by tenants
  • Rent loss during vacancies required for repairs
  • Market rent adjustments to align with voucher rates
  • Application fees, utility arrears and connection fees
  • A $500 “hold” incentive while a unit awaits inspection or lease processing

To apply, landlords must provide documentation showing completed work, including receipts, photos and a valid W-9.

Only completed repairs are eligible; estimates, quotes or unverified expenses will not be reimbursed.

The program is funded with $800,000 and will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information or to apply, landlords can visit housingnm.org or contact Christi Wheelock, the program’s landlord liaison, at cwheelock@housingnm.org or (505) 767-2279.
