It’s Tuesday June 17 and it will be another triple-digit afternoon.

If you are looking to cool off, remember that Estancia’s pool is closed for repairs but the library there is one of New Mexico’s best and they have programming for adults and kids daily.

The Edgewood library is having a weeklong scavenger hunt for kids in addition to regular programming.

For adults and kids who love fire trucks, Moriarty’s library is hosting a field trip with the fire department tomorrow. The library and museum are also open most days.

In the East Mountains, the library hosts its weekly “read to dogs” event that kids and adults love every Wednesday (details here) and the Vista Grande Community Center in Sandia Park has more than a dozen regular summer programs for all ages. Ditto for Los Vecinos in Tijeras.

In other words, your public services have great free and cheap ways to keep engaged and beat the heat. Stay safe (and cool!)

What else we’re reading…

We didn’t write it but New Mexicans should be reading it.

Like free local news from reporters who understand how New Mexico works? Seems important, right?
Unlike big news outlets that hide coverage behind paywalls and pop-ups, we ask readers to chip in what they think we’re worth to keep this site free, accessible and growing.

Thank you Susan, Mona, Kathleen, and Dr. M for renewing your support for independent, local journalists this past weekend!
