The Town of Edgewood is once again inviting residents to join together in celebrating the Fourth of July with two days of activities.

While initially the events included a 5K fun run, the town canceled the run.

Linda Burke, the town’s community liaison, said the Fourth of July celebrations will be similar to last year.

She said the events include a car show, arts and craft vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, live music and, of course, the fireworks show.

“They’ve got another big, at least half an hour show planned. So that’ll keep the community really happy,” she said. “It’s so much fun, and it’s nice, because then the community comes out, and instead of seeing fireworks going off all over town that can be dangerous and scarce animals, the community comes together, and we have a great community event. And it’s a little safer for everybody.”

While the fireworks can be seen from many different places in Edgewood, Venus Park offers a community viewing experience complete with food trucks.

The parade will be at 8 a.m. on July 4.

“It sounds early, but it’s still cool,” Burke said.

After the parade, people can head over to the car show or to check out the arts and crafts vendors.

The parade route goes down New Mexico Highway 344 between the middle school and Venus Park.

A Civil War reenactment will be a highlight of Saturday’s events. It will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lions Club hands “baton” to Moriarty to run parade

The Moriarty Lions Club has been overseeing the city’s Fourth of July parade since 2016, but this month it asked the city to take over that endeavor.

During the June 11 City Council meeting, Santos Tapia with the Lions Club said the organization still wants to serve the community, but its “membership is not where it used to be.”

Tapia said the Lions Club wanted to “pass the baton back to the City of Moriarty.”

The City Council accepted that baton and Tapia said he will provide Moriarty with the support needed to ensure it can successfully take over.

The Lions Club will continue to host other Fourth of July events including the pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. These events will take place at 515 Lions Ct.

Estancia events include mushball tournament

The American Legion Post #22 will host a mushball tournament from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Estancia Valley Legacy Ballpark. The tournament will feature eight teams and single elimination. Basic baseball rules apply and the games will be played in three-innings. Each team will have eight to 12 players. Albert Lovato is listed as the contact for people wishing to register. He can be reached at 505-219-8876.

Meanwhile, at Estancia’s Arthur Park, a horseshoe tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with sign ups starting at noon.

There will be music in the park from noon to 7 p.m. and a kids bicycle parade at 6 p.m. starting at the Estancia Fire Department. At dusk, the town’s firework show will begin.
