The Edgewood Town Commission will discuss giving police officers a pay raise while eliminating one open officer position.

The commission meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Town Hall, 171-A State Rd. 344 in Edgewood.

This raise comes on the back of an 8% raise Edgewood employees received last year. That has led to some concerns that the data may not be there to support another raise.

Edgewood police say the pay increase is needed due to costs of living and because the town lags behind neighboring agencies in Bernalillo and Santa Fe counties, including the Albuquerque Police Department. But critics say those agencies are larger and face different challenges because they are in urban areas.

Some of the town commissioners have previously sought additional data and information to support the request for a raise.

The request for the raise also comes as the town is trying to balance its budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts July 1.

Other agenda items include East Venus Road and appointment of more members to the Economic Development Advisory Board.

People who are unable to attend can view the meeting on YouTube.
